Our Roots
OUR STORY
The first seeds of Planteria were planted 47 years ago (1977) by Brian Anderson in Wanstead, East London.
There Brian stored plants in his garden greenhouse and won his first maintenance contract in Central London.
In the 1980s, Brian partnered with his brother, Phil Anderson, and by the 1990s, the business had become established in the London market; with the brothers operating from purpose-built greenhouses and offices in Chigwell, Essex.
2000 saw the fresh flowers created in-house and in 2010, the head office was set up amidst six acres of sprawling country-side in Henham, Essex.
Over the next decade, Planteria grew and flourished, establishing strong roots by welcoming many new members into its family and developing a strong set of values that continue to this day.
Today, Planteria has a team of over 160 employees, providing plants and fresh flower displays to over 2,300 sites across the UK.
Our purpose is to harness the power of nature, to create inspirational spaces.
We know our future is one focused on innovation, where sustainability is no longer seen as an add-on by our industry, but as being integral to our future success.
In this report, we are delighted to launch our sustainability strategy, Growing for the Future, which we hope will inspire others to take action for people and the planet.
We invite you to explore this report and get involved by joining forces with us and sharing your thoughts at sustainability@planteriagroup.com.
A Letter from our Managing Director
DEAR READER
As we reflect on the first year of our sustainability strategy, Growing for the Future, I want to take a moment to appreciate the incredible progress we’ve made together. Sustainability is no longer just a concept – it’s embedded in our day-to-day operations, leadership decisions, and client conversations. Over the past year, we’ve expanded our understanding of what sustainability truly means, ensuring it remains central to how we operate and innovate.
Planteria’s vision is for a world where nature is at the forefront of all architectural design concepts, enriching wellbeing for all.
One of the most exciting outcomes has been the refocused decision-making at leadership levels, ensuring sustainability isn’t just an afterthought but a key driver of our strategic choices. The open conversations we’ve had – internally and with our clients – have deepened our understanding of what they need and expect, allowing us to shape our approach accordingly.
Our biggest success so far? The operational team’s role transformation – moving from on-site technicians using fleet vehicles to walking technicians leveraging public transport. In 2023 walking technicians made up 32% of our London region technicians, in 2024 this has increased to 40% and is continuing to rise, this shift has had a tangible positive impact on emissions, efficiency, and recruitment.
Looking ahead, I am particularly excited about the implementation of our Carbon Reduction Plan, which is built on the verified GHG quantification we recently completed. A major focus will be transitioning to an EV fleet, bringing us even closer to our emissions targets.
Our next priority is data transparency – ensuring that we don’t just track efforts but clearly monitor key metrics to tangibly demonstrate inputs, outcomes, and impacts. This will allow us to make more informed decisions, drive further sustainability improvements, and communicate our progress with clarity and confidence.
Thank you for being part of this journey. Our collective efforts are making a real difference, and together, we are shaping a more sustainable future.
Our success is built on the dedication of our people, and we remain committed to protecting them by fostering a culture of genuine care – both for our team and for the planet. We recognise that sustainability is a shared responsibility, and we are passionate about collaborating with our people, clients, and suppliers to achieve our collective ambitions.
By bringing together the best minds, we can create a future where Planteria continues to flourish. I invite you to join us in our sustainability strategy, Growing for the Future, as we enhance workplace well-being in harmony with both people and the planet.
Matt Anderson
Managing Director
Growing for
the Future
“As well as ensuring financial performance, protecting our people and the planet are key priorities at Planteria.
Human beings thrive when they are connected to nature and the natural living world, and it is our focus to enable our people, clients and wider society to develop strong connections to the nature that surrounds them.
Our sustainability journey will be equal parts exciting, rewarding and challenging.
We invite everyone to join us as we enhance work-place wellbeing in harmony with people and the planet.”
MATT ANDERSON
MANAGING DIRECTOR
At Planteria we have committed to improve our business processes and operations and protect the futures of people and the planet.
With every project we are involved in and every landscape we design, we aspire to elevate the lives of people, protect ecosystems, provide products fit for the future, and prevent the exploitation of the planet. Our vision for our sustainability strategy, Growing for the Future, is to enhance work-place wellbeing in harmony with people and the planet.
Working closely with our independent sustainability advisors, we followed a robust strategy development process that engaged our people, suppliers, and clients, and enabled us to understand the sustainability issues that are most important to the business and our stakeholders.
This strategy development process, aligned to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), led to a deep understanding of the challenges, risks and opportunities facing our business and how, by working together, we can embrace them to create positive change.
Through Growing for the Future, we are committing to 14 goals to be achieved by 2026. We are proud of the commitments we are making that will not only challenge our business in new, transformative ways, but will also build on projects and initiatives we already have in place.
We are looking forward to sharing this journey through regular and transparent communications as we work closely with our stakeholders. We know our talented and highly valued colleagues are passionate about ensuring we achieve our sustainability goals, and we welcome any ideas or contributions.
Our suppliers create products that bring nature into spaces where there was previously none and deliver value to our clients – they are a big reason behind our business success. We are excited to enjoy stronger and more mutually rewarding partnerships in the coming years.
Trust and loyalty underpin every relationship we develop. We are grateful that our clients trust us to create spaces that benefit from nature and support the health and wellbeing of their people.
Through Growing for the Future our hope is to continue building these strong, long-lasting relationships whilst helping our clients to achieve their sustainability goals. We will conduct an annual review of how our strategy aligns with the SDGs.

Growing for the Future:
People
Nurturing our People for Future Growth
We believe that creating a strong sense of belonging is key to a thriving workplace. HiBob (our people management tool) has been instrumental in strengthening connections across national teams, enhancing employee wellbeing, and fostering growth. It’s helping us build a culture where people feel valued, supported, and inspired to collaborate.
Our People & Culture Team has been working tirelessly to maximise HiBob’s potential and ensure it serves our employees in meaningful ways. In 2024, they revamped our performance and development journey, launching the Aspire Playbook – a programme that strengthens our values, supports the ongoing development of our colleagues and integrates sustainability into everything we do. As part of this initiative, we’ve already invested in a great deal of internal training, ensuring our team is equipped with the knowledge, skills, and mindset to drive this positive change.
Employee Feedback received on the ‘Opportunities to Grow & Learn’ as well as on ‘Development Being Encouraged’:
“I have the luxury of being involved in many new projects and I feel that this is adding huge value to my knowledge and experience.”
“I think my development is encouraged by the training and courses I have received.”
Valuing People Through Responsible Recruitment
We have embraced a ‘Values Led’ recruitment process that we strongly believe has been and will continue to be the driver of our success. This method allows us to hire staff who connect with our values and will actively partake in our culture at Planteria.
In 2024, we strengthened our recruitment approach even further by conducting a full internal review of our processes, refining how we identify and attract new talent. This included enhancing inclusivity to ensure everyone feels valued and respected regardless of their background and characteristics.
For example, we removed barriers to entry by ensuring roles, like our walking technician positions, no longer require a driving license, opening up opportunities to a broader range of candidates. Additionally, we focused on minimising unconscious bias, embedding Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) into every stage of our hiring process.
By aligning our recruitment practices with our values, we’re not just building a team – we’re fostering a community of passionate individuals who share our vision and are excited to Grow for the Future.
Employee Voice Builds Culture & Vision
A committed workforce is essential to driving meaningful change, which is why we conduct biannual employee surveys and measure our Employee Net Promoter Score (eNPS) to gauge satisfaction, alignment, and overall engagement.
By regularly assessing employee sentiment, we gain valuable insights into workplace wellbeing, professional development needs, and how our sustainability initiatives resonate with our people. A strong eNPS score signals that our employees feel connected to our mission, fostering a culture where sustainability is embraced at every level.
The response rate for our December 2024 survey was 77%. In 2023 we achieved an eNPS of 19 & in 2024 we achieved an eNPS of 21, for context a good eNPS score is considered to be between 10 and 30; with above 30 being defined as excellent, which is our aim.
Polly Young, People & Culture Team
This feedback loop has helped us refine our sustainability approach, ensuring that initiatives from wellbeing programs to workplace improvements align with employee values. Additionally, by acting on survey results, we continuously improve diversity, equity, inclusion, and fair access to opportunities, reinforcing our commitment to a business that is sustainable for both people and planet.
As we move forward, we remain committed to using data-driven insights to shape a workplace where employees feel empowered to contribute to sustainability efforts – because progress isn’t just about policies, but about the people who bring them to life.
Strengthening Wellbeing in the Workplace
We know that employee wellbeing is central to a thriving workplace. That’s why we’re continually evolving our support offerings, ensuring our teams have access to the tools, resources, and services that help them maintain their mental, physical, and emotional health.
Introducing Wellbeing Solutions
We established a new partnership with Wellbeing Solutions, delivering an expanded Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) designed to provide confidential, accessible, and expert support to every employee.
With 24/7 helpline access, online booking for support, and confidential counselling from accredited specialists, this fully funded service gives employees the space and professional guidance they need to navigate challenges in their personal and professional lives. Whether seeking advice on stress management, financial concerns, life transitions, or workplace issues, Wellbeing Solutions ensures expert assistance is always available.
Employees will also benefit from legal, debt, and life management advice, alongside hundreds of wellbeing resources, discounts, and cashback opportunities.
Confidentiality & Trust
Understanding the sensitive nature of wellbeing support, this service remains entirely confidential – Planteria does not receive any personal or identifying details about who is using these support resources. The goal is to create a safe space for employees to seek guidance without concern. In cases where safeguarding protocols require intervention for safety reasons, employees will be informed when information needs to be shared with relevant bodies.
Committed to Workplace Wellbeing
We believe that positive wellbeing helps us maintain resilience, overcome challenges, and fulfil our potential, both at work and in our daily lives. That’s why we’re focused on empowering individuals, fostering a supportive culture, and creating a workplace where everyone feels valued. With our Wellbeing Solutions now in place, we continue our journey toward a healthier, more connected team.
All new employees who join Planteria carry out a pre-screening health assessment, enabling us to understand any specific and individual needs they may have, to ensure from day 1 they have the correct support and adjustments in place. We are also able to help and support any employees who are undergoing health concerns or ensure anyone returning to work following a period of absence is properly assessed and supported with a smooth, safe, and well-managed return to the workplace. In 2025 we will be looking for a new supplier who can help us streamline and improve our offering.
Foundations of Transparency
In 2025, we are committed to enhancing transparency in our People metrics to gain deeper insights into the effectiveness of our recruitment and development strategies. While we currently assess our workforce in terms of gender representation, we recognise the need to expand this analysis to include minority and other vulnerable groups. By doing so, we aim to systematically review and evaluate our data to identify any organisational factors that may be inadvertently limiting equitable access to opportunities.
Additionally, we reaffirm our commitment to a merit-based approach, ensuring that jobs and promotions are awarded solely on the basis of skill, capability, and ability to perform the role. This principle underpins our efforts to create a workplace that is inclusive, fair, and representative of diverse talent, reinforcing our values of equity, diversity, and inclusion while fostering a culture of growth, opportunity, and excellence.

Safe By Nature: Embedding Health & Safety into sustainability at Planteria
Since joining the company nine months ago, I’ve raised a few health and safety issues and was really impressed by how quickly the H&S team responded with practical solutions. The formation of the H&S Committee has already made a huge impact — it’s been eye-opening to hear the challenges faced by other departments, and great to work together to find workable solutions. It’s definitely helped make raising and resolving H&S concerns more effective and collaborative.
Liam Page, Field Service Team Leader
At Planteria, sustainability isn’t just about environmental impact—it’s about people, too. That’s why we’ve launched our internal Health & Safety (H&S) Committee, embedding wellbeing and safety into the fabric of our workplace culture. This isn’t a formality—it’s a foundational part of how we care for our people as much as we care for the planet.
The committee meets quarterly and brings together voices from across the business. Roles such as Service Team Leaders, our Fleet Manager, and the Quality Manager are among the representatives involved who offer operational insight and diverse perspectives that shape the conversation. Together, this group champions a proactive and collaborative approach to health, safety, and wellbeing across all our sites.
Training has already begun to build capability: members have received health and safety auditing and dynamic risk assessment training. Building on this momentum, we will provide IOSH (Institution of Occupational Safety and Health) training to committee members in 2025, further strengthening our expertise and advancing our commitment to continuous improvement.
By placing safety at the heart of sustainability, the H&S Committee ensures that everyone, at every level, has a voice in shaping the spaces we work in. It’s a vital part of our growth—rooted in care, powered by people.
H&S is very important to Planteria directors as we wish all staff, and people they work with, to be safe and to be able to lead healthy lives. We strive to engender a H&S culture throughout the organisation to ensure our policies are implemented effectively and everyone is encouraged to provide feedback to help us to continually improve.

Branching Out: How we Made Space to grow
Due to the rapid expansion of our workforce, which grew by nearly 60% in 2022 alone, it became evident that additional office space was required to accommodate this growth effectively. Staff are our greatest asset. Providing quality office space for our staff is fundamental to ensure maximum productivity and positivity. We see this as an opportunity to symbolise our key purpose to ‘harness the power of nature to create inspirational spaces and create a showcase for our products. The enhanced facilities will enable us to hold meetings and events for clients and prospects leading to increased engagement and revenue.
The Leadership Team and the Nursery Operations Manager collaborated closely with Architects, Designers, and a Project Management Company from the initial design phase through to the construction and finalisation of the new office space. Throughout the entire process, sustainability remained a key consideration. Every aspect was carefully planned, from the overall aesthetic and structural design – ensuring the reuse of the existing framework – to the selection of equipment and materials and modular building units for the new areas. The use of modular construction reduces waste materials and allows for future adaptability.
The construction methods used, such as the use of ground-screw piling for the building’s foundation to eliminate concrete, were chosen to minimise environmental impact.
Matt Anderson, Managing Director
Several key sustainability factors were carefully considered and integrated into the new office space, including:
- Installation of an energy-efficient HVAC system, including heat pumps and heat exchangers, to optimise heating and air cooling, reducing overall energy consumption – provides improved natural ventilation and airflow to enhance indoor air quality
- Double-glazed windows for enhanced insulation and reduced energy loss
- High-performance insulation materials to improve thermal efficiency
- Energy-efficient LED lighting with motion sensors to minimise unnecessary energy use
- Low-flush toilets to reduce water consumption and promote sustainability
- Sensor-activated taps to improve water efficiency by preventing unnecessary wastage
- Biophilic design elements such as indoor plants, to improve air quality and employee well-being
- Waste segregation and recycling to encourage responsible disposal paperless office initiatives to reduce reliance on printed materials
- Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations to support the transition to greener transportation
These initiatives reflect our commitment to environmental responsibility while optimising operational efficiency. As part of this effort, we have decommissioned our water tank to reduce the risk of Legionnaires’ disease, ensuring safer water management and compliance with health regulations. Our wastewater treatment system provides a sustainable and environmentally responsible solution, particularly suited to our rural location. In addition to supporting soil irrigation in a controlled and safe manner, it facilitates the efficient reuse of treated water, minimising waste and promoting sustainability.
The office development was designed with inclusivity in mind, ensuring accessibility for all staff. Considerations included:
- A single-level building design to eliminate barriers and improve ease of movement
- A disabled/gender-neutral bathroom/shower room
- Wide doorways and hallways to accommodate wheelchairs and mobility aids
- Adjustable desks and chairs to provide comfort and accommodate employees with varying physical needs
- Disabled parking spaces located near entrances with appropriate signage
- A ramp connecting the new car park to the office building to provide step-free access
- Rest areas with comfortable seating for individuals needing a break or those with physical disability
These features reflect a commitment to creating an inclusive and accessible workplace for everyone.

Engage & Bloom: Where biophilia gets personal
At Planteria Group, we continue to lead the integration of biophilic design into the built environment, creating healthier, more engaging spaces that enhance human performance. Our work harnesses the power of nature to improve wellbeing, boost productivity, and support sustainable workplace strategies.
In response to a growing demand for people-centric design and meaningful staff engagement, we expanded our offering in 2024 to better support clients pursuing WELL Building Certification and broader wellbeing goals. As part of this commitment, I completed my WELL AP qualification in April 2024. This reflects our alignment with the WELL Standard’s MIND concept, which advocates for education and engagement to foster community and elevate workplace experience. Initiatives such as our Engage & Bloom programme have been developed with this purpose in mind.
Research from Dr Craig Knight and the University of Exeter’s Identity Realisation Research Group reinforces the case for nature in the workplace. Their findings show that incorporating plants and enabling employees to personalise their environment can lead to a 47% increase in wellbeing, 45% boost in creativity, and 38% rise in productivity. (Knight, C., Haslam, S. A., & Nieuwenhuis, M. (2014). Lean, mean and personally meaningful: The impact of workplace design on health and productivity. Journal of Experimental Psychology: Applied, 20(3), 219–229.)
Katie Le Chevalier, Business Development Manager
In 2024, our Biophilic CPD sessions for architects and designers focused on the value of biophilia in supporting wellbeing, staff engagement, ROI, and compliance with WELL. These sessions feature research-backed content, project case studies, and Q&A tailored to specific design goals.
Planet Scorecard Metric
In 2023, we delivered 19 Biophilic CPD sessions reaching 171 individuals. In 2024, we delivered 13 sessions reaching 79 individuals.
Alongside this, our Engage & Bloom programme was developed and launched in 2024, providing webinars and interactive nature-connection sessions for employees. The initiative helps individuals understand how they can work with nature to reduce stress and improve wellbeing, apply biophilic design principles into their own lives and, as working in teams, foster community and workplace culture. This programme is set to expand further in 2025!
Since the launch of Engage & Bloom in September 2024, we delivered 8 Engage & Bloom sessions.
“It was VERY well received! I have my Peperomia Raindrop coming home with me tonight.”
“They were excellent, knowledgeable, approachable, and very supportive throughout the session. They explained each step clearly and made sure everyone felt comfortable, regardless of experience level. I really appreciated how patient and encouraging they were, especially when helping us with the more detailed parts of the arrangements. Their passion for floristry came through and made the workshop even more enjoyable. Overall, they created a great learning environment and were a big part of what made the session a success!”
“They were fantastic and the display they set was simply beautiful! Colleagues loved the activation today. We’d love to have both Sarah’s back in June for World Environment day.”

Planting the first seed: our GHG Reporting Journey
As part of its ongoing commitment to sustainability and transparency, we have published our 2023 Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions Report, aligned with ISO 14064-1:2019. The report offers a clear view of how we monitor, measure, and continue to reduce our carbon footprint as we work toward a Net Zero future.
In accordance with ISO 14064-1:2019, Planteria uses the operational control approach to define our organisational and reporting boundaries. This ensures that all facilities and activities under the company’s operational control are included – providing a true and fair representation of our core business operations.
The emissions inventory is developed in line with internationally recognised standards, including the GHG Protocol, SECR, and PPN 06/21 Carbon Reduction Plan. Data is gathered from internal systems and reliable sources such as utility bills and fuel records and converted using the latest UK Government GHG conversion factors, with additional ONS data used for relevant spend-based categories.
To ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance, the 2023 report was independently verified by NQA. This independent assurance confirms that the methodology, boundaries, and calculations meet the rigorous expectations set by ISO 14064-1:2019.
We have implemented a series of carbon reduction initiatives, focusing on improving energy efficiency, exploring renewable energy opportunities, supporting low-carbon commuting, and engaging suppliers to reduce emissions across the value chain. A firm commitment to annual reporting and transparent measurement underpins these efforts, reinforcing Planteria’s long-term environmental vision.
Our GHG Emissions Report not only tracks our current progress, but it also lays the foundation for deeper action and smarter decisions in years to come. With a strong methodology, verified performance, and a clear sense of purpose, Planteria hopes to lead by example on the path to Net Zero.
peat-free and proud: why we chose ecoponic
Peat may be a gardener’s friend, but it’s the planet’s foe. Peatlands – those soggy, carbon-rich ecosystems – play a critical role in regulating our climate. Acting as natural carbon sinks, they store vast amounts of carbon dioxide (CO₂) over millennia. But when peat is drained, extracted, or burned for use in compost, all that stored carbon is released into the atmosphere, contributing to global warming. The damage doesn’t stop there. Peatland disturbance also releases methane (CH₄), an even more potent greenhouse gas, while destroying habitats and biodiversity.
With awareness growing, the tide is turning. Many countries are moving to phase out peat-based composts, recognising that reducing their use is a key step in climate mitigation. At Planteria, we’re proud to be ahead of the curve – with a solution that’s not only sustainable but also scientifically sound.
Ecoponic: Our Soil-Free Solution
Ecoponic is our innovative alternative to peat-based compost. Made from a pure mineral mix of pumice and zeolite, it offers a host of benefits that align perfectly with sustainable practices:
100% Peat Free: Protecting the planet by preserving peatlands
Highly Water Efficient: Absorbs 44% of its weight in water, cutting down water use
Pest Resistant: With no organic content, it’s inhospitable to soil-borne pests
Structurally Stable: Doesn’t break down or compact, promoting healthy root growth
Recyclable and Reusable: A truly circular product with no waste
Ecoponic also provides optimal growing conditions with over 35% air pore volume, ensuring roots have access to the oxygen they need. It’s ideal for interior plant installations.
A Growing Movement at Planteria
We now use Ecoponic substrate in 98% of our interior displays—a shift that underscores our commitment to more sustainable practices. This reflects more than an operational change—it marks a growing mindset that prioritises the planet while maintaining high standards for plant performance.
Growing for the Future:
Partnerships
on the up: client insight driving NPS growth
Delivering a consistently positive client experience remains a key priority for our business. In 2024, we enhanced the way we collect, respond to, and act on customer feedback to support stronger relationships and continuous service improvement.
We have introduced a new customer survey tool (Survey Monkey) that simplifies the feedback process, making it quicker and easier for clients to share their thoughts. Rather than surveying a small sample weekly, we now conduct quarterly surveys with all clients, ensuring regular insight into their experience with our services.
All responses are reviewed and followed up by the Customer Experience Manager, who engages directly with clients via phone or face-to-face meetings. This personal approach helps us understand the context behind the score, resolve any concerns swiftly, and demonstrate that client input leads to real change.
To ensure feedback drives improvement at every level, key insights are shared with our regional service teams, enabling them to respond to recurring themes, celebrate successes, and address challenges collaboratively.
We continue to measure satisfaction using the Net Promoter Score (NPS) and are working towards achieving a score of 70 or higher – a benchmark recognised as world-class. This ambitious target reflects our commitment to putting our clients at the centre of everything we do and delivering a service experience that exceeds expectations.

Curiosity Copse: Inspiring the next guardians of nature
As part of our ongoing commitment to social sustainability and community wellbeing, Planteria was approached in early 2024 by Henham & Ugley School to support the redevelopment of their Forest Area – an outdoor space designed to provide a calming, stimulating environment for students.
A cross-functional team was formed, bringing together colleagues from all departments. Following collaborative discussions with the school, we developed a proposal that included a high-level design plan, mood boards and a shopping list of materials.
The refurbishment took place over a five-week period during the summer of 2024, with around 30 Planteria employees volunteering their time and skills throughout the project. This hands-on initiative not only revitalised an important educational space but also strengthened team engagement and fostered a sense of shared purpose.
This project reflects our broader sustainability values – supporting local communities, promoting inclusive environments, and encouraging active employee participation in meaningful initiatives.
“I would like to take the opportunity to thank you for all your hard work and care rejuvenating our forest area. The children returned to school after the summer holiday to the lovely surprise! We have already been able to enjoy the new space and we have lots of wonderful learning opportunities planned for this space. We have named this wonderful corner of our playfield ‘Curiosity Copse’. A huge thank you to you all – we are extremely grateful.”
Assistant Head Teacher, Henham and Ugley Primary School.
Developing a strong foundation for sustainable procurement
At Planteria, we are laying the foundations for a more transparent, responsible, and forward-thinking supply chain. In 2024/25 we have developed a robust and practical framework designed to bring more transparency, stronger partnerships, and better outcomes for people and the planet. We have aligned our approach with ISO 20400 the international guidance standard for sustainable procurement.
Building a Strong, Sustainable Foundation
Our approach is anchored in a structured sustainable procurement strategy supported by our three-pillar “Good–Better–Best” sustainability specification. This allows us to assess suppliers at different stages of maturity, encourage continuous improvement, and create shared language and expectations throughout our supply chain. This specification focuses on three main areas:
Environmental Stewardship
Health, Safety & Wellbeing
People & Business Ethics
We’ve also created a 17-point Supplier Code of Conduct and a detailed Self-Assessment Questionnaire to help us, and our suppliers understand where we are today and how we can improve, together.
Partnerships, Not Just Procurement
This marks the start of a long-term journey Planteria hopes to travel with our suppliers. In 2025 we are planning to progress our Sustainable Procurement activities from initial supplier training and commitment to our standards. Through to periodic, collaborative evaluations, we will benchmark progress and explore opportunities to raise the bar together.
Our intention isn’t to impose, but to partner – to listen, learn, and support. By building trust and encouraging open dialogue, we aim to create a value chain built on shared goals, mutual respect, and continuous improvement. This isn’t about box-ticking – it’s about real conversations, shared learning, and growing side by side.
We see our suppliers not just as vendors, but as long-term partners. Our role is to support and challenge each other to do better, step by step. Whether it’s sharing ideas, highlighting good practice, or working through areas that need attention – we’re here for the journey.
A Shared Vision for a Better Future
Planteria’s sustainable procurement strategy reflects a broader commitment to responsible growth. This isn’t a finish line – it’s the first milestone in a journey. This is more than a business move – it’s about doing the right thing. We believe that the way we work with others can create a positive ripple effect, making a meaningful difference in people’s lives and the environment.
We are proud of what we’ve built so far – and equally aware that this is just the beginning. As we implement these tools, we look forward to building strong, trust-based partnerships with suppliers who share our vision for sustainable procurement.
pruning the portfolio
In late 2022, it became clear that our expanding plant catalogue was creating inefficiencies in stock management and operations. At the same time, greenhouse overstocking highlighted the need for a structured inventory review and SKU-level controls.
Following a comprehensive analysis of top-performing plant varieties, we developed a streamlined core plant list, ensuring efficient stock management while meeting client needs.
In 2024, further logistics and ordering process improvements enhanced efficiency. A new shuttle service for London teams eliminated the need for Field Staff to travel to Henham, with plants and materials now delivered directly. Additionally, we moved to a just-in-time ordering system, significantly reducing onsite stock levels and improving inventory control.
To keep our Plant Portfolio current and aligned with industry trends, we introduced quarterly cross-functional review meetings in 2024. Bringing together teams from Commercial, Purchasing, Service and Training, these sessions focus on:
– Plant performance, longevity, and environmental suitability
– Light, temperature, and watering requirements
– Removing redundant species and trialling new plant varieties
This structured approach has streamlined operations, improved stock efficiency, and enhanced client satisfaction, ensuring our Plant Portfolio remains dynamic, fit for purpose and most of all considerate of environmental impact.
Growing for the Future:
Progress
relentless to improve: governance that drives sustainable progress
At Planteria we strive to not only embed sustainable solutions into our business but also inspire our people and industry to commit to taking bold action that will protect our planet for future generations. To allow us to be able to shout about our commitments, activities and impacts, the leadership team at Planteria has utilised external methods of verification to support sustainable governance and ensure integrity of controls, metrics and reporting.
As part of our 2024/25 strategy activities to demonstrate commitment to society, our people and the environment, Planteria Group (UK) Ltd has completed a thorough assessment of its business sustainability practices through EcoVadis, a global leader in business sustainability assessments. The EcoVadis assessment includes 21 sustainability criteria across four core themes: Environment, Labor & Human Rights, Ethics and Sustainable Procurement.
In our initial rating, we earned a Bronze Medal (Top 35%) and scored a 65/100.
However, this is just the start of our journey. Ongoing, this assessment will be conducted annually and also updated throughout the year to help guide our improvement efforts across the four core pillars.
Supported by our first assessment, we have already made significant progress on the opportunities for improvement highlighted by the EcoVadis Framework. With these improvements and the maturing of our sustainability practices, we are targeting a Silver or Gold Medal at our next assessment in 2026, aligned with one of our core values being “relentless to improve”.
In 2025/26, we are also aiming to increase our Cyber Essentials status to Cyber Essentials Plus, and to increase the recognition of our ISO14001 Environmental Management System by gaining certification through a UKAS Accredited Certification Body.
By aligning action with accountability, we’re building a future where sustainability is embedded in every decision – driven by purpose, guided by progress, and powered by people.
