We worked with CBRE to refurbish Experian’s office space on the 6th floor of Cardinal Place embodies a modern, sustainable, and futuristic design. It was meticulously crafted to serve as a collaborative hub, prioritising both sustainability and staff wellness.

The space boasts two main social hubs, a prep and buffet kitchen, open-plan work areas, connect spaces, a variety of meeting rooms, a wellness room, and a prayer room, ensuring that every aspect of a perfect office environment has been thoughtfully included.

Experian 2
Experian 10

The collaboration areas are strategically designed to take advantage of the external views, offering stunning views of key London landmarks such as The London Eye, Cardinal Place, and Westminster Cathedral Hall. This connection to the outside world enhances the workspace, making it a more inspiring and engaging environment.

Experian Colour board 1

At Planteria, we drew inspiration from Experian’s branding guidelines, subtly incorporating key colours into the design. Shades of purple and pink were infused into the cabinet top planting, naturally blending the company’s branding with the greenery.

The majority of the pots were chosen in neutral colours, accented with hints of blue tones to link back into Experians branding.

We also assisted in achieving Experian’s key sustainability aims, and further increasing the benefits of having planting in offices, we incorporated into the designs numerous planters produced from recycled materials. Furthermore, these planters are all manufactured using 100% pure wind energy, from our suppliers onsite wind turbine.

Experian 14

Our biophilic design approach features a variety of freestanding planters filled with diverse greenery. We also incorporated cabinet top planters, seating booth plants, and tabletop plants, all showcasing an array of plants, including some mixed succulents.

This thoughtful integration of natural elements not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of the office but also contributes to the overall well-being of the staff and sustainability aims for Experian.

Creating a well-being workspace with a difference

108 Cannon Street is not your typical office space. It was designed with key sustainability credentials and employee well-being at its forefront. 108 Cannon Street has been reimagined it includes a stunning new reception, rooftop terrace and beautifully designed workspace.

Back in 1183, Cannon Street was known as Candelewrithstret, initially it was home to candle-makers otherwise known as a chandler. A chandler was a person who specialised in crafting wax and candles. Back in this period – Candles were made from tallow, this is rendered from beef or mutton fat, as a result, the smell was quite pungent. There were many complaints from people around the city about the smells spreading from Candelewrithstret. The chandlers eventually moved their trade to outside the city walls. In the late 19th century Cannon Street was occupied by large wholesale warehouses, especially of cotton goods and other fabrics.

The design of the new 108 Cannon Street wanted to embrace the history of the building and surrounding area right back from the 1100s, The inspiration for the colour scheme and design of the building was to incorporate the colour and textures of wool and cloth, a reminder of the 19th century warehouses that occupied the street, and use light pastel colouring to remember the original Chandlers of Candelewrithstret.

The new design boasts some super-sustainable solutions, it received a BREEAM ‘very good’ rating, WELL ‘gold’ certification EPC ‘b’ rating and was named Net Zero enabled with remaining carbon emissions onset.

We used an exciting selection of plants to echo the inspiration behind the design. The mood board behind our biophilic design showed pastel greens, pinks and reds and incorporated multiple textures into the design. We used free-standing pots and troughs, which are all made from natural materials or recycled plastic, to house our array of plants. We used light whites, greys, and pastels for our pots and troughs to blend with the key colour scheme of the new design.

In a further push for sustainability, we planted all our displays in Ecoponic substrate, a 100% peat-free soil substitute. Ecoponic substrate helps protect our vulnerable peatlands and wildlife and reduces carbon emissions. It also uses less water and reduces flies and pests.

With a goal of revitalizing its London offices, Anomaly partnered with Planteria Group. Working together with Rainbow designs, we set on a journey to take their office to a new level. Transforming their space into an inviting, biophilic oasis.

This case study highlights the successful collaboration between Anomaly and Planteria.

Location: London

Anomaly 11
Anomaly 3

Working with Rainbow Designs, Anomaly wanted to create a stimulating experience for employees.  Planteria designed and installed the planting scheme.  We included plants with both aesthetics and natural benefits to employees.

Design Implementation

The design concept was to use lush green plants with dramatic, textured planters to create a unique office environment.

Impressive textured planters

Biophilic design is more than just adding plants.  It can also achieve by incorporating natural textures.  A fantastic way of doing this is through the planters.  We chose textured planters made from natural materials including stone, ceramic, and hessian. The choice of materials added a tactile element.

Trailing Scindapsus plants around the stairwell

The stairwell, a prominent feature in the office, presented a unique opportunity to add a touch of nature. Trailing Scindapsus plants along the handrails add a sense of movement and life to the space.

Shelving planting with smaller plants

Another aspect of the project was utilising shelving space. Smaller plants arranged on shelves, creating mini-green oases within the office. This not only added greenery but also optimized the use of vertical space, resulting in a multi-dimensional design.

Anomaly 7
Anomaly 9

Outcomes and Benefits

The integration of plants and planters transformed Anomaly’s London offices.  It delivered numerous benefits to the workspace and its occupants:

A brilliant place to work

Anomaly is defined by ‘progressive, diverse thinkers looking for something different’.  Their office design needed to support that.  Planteria was able to help them stand out to potential employees – creating a brilliant, supportive place to work.

Improved well-being & productivity

Interior plants are proven to enhance well-being and reduce stress levels. After-all, on average we spend 30% of our waking hours in the office.  Employees at Anomaly should feel more connected to nature.  This will lead to increased creativity and a sense of tranquillity within the office environment.

Positive aesthetics & brand identity

Including plants and visually appealing planters improve the aesthetics of the space. It also aligns with Anomaly’s brand identity of creativity, innovation, and pushing boundaries.  A bold statement to clients and visitors.

Anomaly 4
Anomaly 6

The collaboration between Anomaly, Rainbow Designs and Planteria brings Anomaly’s vision to life.  The offices are a green oasis that inspires and energizes employees. The brilliant planting scheme created a harmonious blend of nature and contemporary design.

By adopting biophilic design, the space nurtures creativity and enhances well-being. The pictures speak for themselves, highlighting the value of planting in the workplace.

As Anomaly continues to thrive in their revitalised workspace, the success of this project serves as an inspiration.  Including biophilia with plants and planters can transform an office space.

Attracting staff back to the office with healthy spaceS

Our project at Legal & General’s headquarters in the City of London is a perfect example of how a workplace can be transformed through well-designed and thoughtful planting.

Like many companies, Legal & General wanted to attract its workforce back into the office after Covid and the resulting ‘work from home’ revolution.

There’s been a permanent shift towards hybrid working, with employees wanting more from their workplaces than just a place to do business. More and more people now recognise the difference between healthy and unhealthy offices and the importance of wellbeing at work.

Planteria 20
Planteria 2
Planteria 14

Getting ahead of this change was particularly important for Legal & General with its flagship building, so the company decided to incorporate an extensive indoor planting scheme as part of an overall refurbishment.

Covid also revolutionised something else, and that’s people’s attitudes to nature. As a way of coping with stress or poor health, and to pass the time when we had to distance ourselves socially, many of us went out into nature and discovered how restorative it is for our minds and bodies to surround ourselves with plants and trees. People discovered the value of biophilia (love of natural life), some for the first time.

Again, L&G recognised that and wanted to give their workforce and visitors an environment that would make a lasting difference to their health and happiness, and help them feel connected with the natural world.

Planteria 4

How Planteria created a healthy workplace for L&G

L&G asked us to design a scheme reflecting their company values and their motto of “creating a better tomorrow together.” These values are about bringing people together and about environmental sustainability. The project gave us a fantastic opportunity to showcase not only our plant and design knowledge, but also our understanding of branding and branded spaces, and the importance of using physical space to tell people who you are.

To begin with, there were almost no plants in the building. So L&G asked us to design and plant up displays throughout – both on the refurbished floors and in those where refurbishment wasn’t required.

Planteria 15
Planteria 9 1
Planteria 11

PLANTS THAT ENHANCE THE L&G BRAND

We used an exciting selection of plants to echo the company’s branding and interiors, one of the major ones being Schefflera arboricola or ‘the umbrella tree’ in different varieties. This evokes the famous L&G umbrella logo in a clever yet subtle way.

We created a palette of plant colours inspired by the red, yellow, blue, and green in the L&G umbrella.

Varieties such as the reds of the Aglaonema ‘Cherry’ and Aglaonema ‘Crimson Love’, the yellows of the Dracaena ‘Lemon Lime’ and Aglaonema ‘Key Lime’, the blue-green of Polyscias ‘Fabian’, and the true greens of Monstera deliciosa or Howeria forsteriana (kentia palm).

Planteria 6
To support the Legal & General brand, we chose to feature the Scefflera arboricola, also known as the Umbrella Tree. This evokes the famous L&G umbrella logo in a clever yet subtle way.

Our containers, a combination of free-standing plant pots and wall-mounted displays, are made from natural materials or recycled plastic. We used some in a fresh white to allow the plants to speak for themselves, while others picked out the brand colours and blended with the interior joinery, furniture, and carpets. Using different shapes like this elevates plants to features in the space, drawing the eye and adding interest as well as a sense of calm.

In a further push for sustainability, we planted all our displays in ecoponic substrate, a 100% peat-free soil substitute. Ecoponic substrate helps protect our vulnerable peatlands and wildlife, and reduces carbon emissions. It also uses less water and reduces flies and pests.

Legal & General: a place where people want to be

The effect of this project was to create a captivating plant haven in an otherwise functional workplace – a place staff genuinely wanted to return to. Not only does the scheme bring the workforce back together in an attractive, healthy environment – but it also demonstrates the company’s drive towards nature connection and sustainability, showing they mean what they say with “creating a better tomorrow together.”

The workspace is designed like a village.  Employees are situated in ‘communities’ are positioned around the central ‘town square’.  The EE town square is the Relax & Refuel areas with a variety of furniture and planting to encourage interaction and communication.  Within the open offices there are ‘community clusters’ – areas where staff can meet and collaborate.

The upstairs features a large Training Village – this is an area with assorted meeting rooms, collaboration areas and soft seating.  The building also features a wellness suit – complete with a Planteria moss roof.

The interior draws inspiration from the local environment.  For example, as Newcastle is colloquially called ‘The Toon’ – EE’s auditorium-style meeting area is called the ‘Toon Hall’.

The highlight of the building is the vast canteen area – full of biophilia.  Covering nearly a quarter of the ground floor, this busy, vibrant hub is a meeting point for staff from across the entire building. By the windows are three bays of bench seats – beautiful mixed plants grow in the seat-backs.

Two large circular seats are set around custom planters – an array of plants including Dieffenbachia, Strelitzia create a brilliant biophilic centrepiece.  Above the bar a selection of artificial plants trail from suspended metal racking – differing shades were chosen for maximum impact.

Tailing plants above bars:  Asparagus Sprengeri, Begonia, Chlorophytum, Dieffenbachia Zebra, Eucalyptus, Hedera, Helix, Kunst Druiventak, Caladium, Trailing Pothos.
