CBRE – Anglo American

CBRE client, Anglo American are mining and metals experts with a UK head office in Central London housing key functions.

the brief

Anglo American’s UK Head office is a study in sophistication and understated elegance. It’s clear that great attention to detail is taken in every aspect of the business, including employee engagement.

The building has been designed to support colleagues every need, with comfort and amenity built into each area, and space to accommodate any work scenario, allowing for privacy or collaboration.

Our brief was to deliver high quality planting to enhance the overall aesthetic in line with the client’s needs, and maintain this to an exceptional standard, with a professional and unobtrusive service.

the Solution

The interior design in calming neutral tones with an emphasis on natural materials is the perfect back drop to display Anglo American’s fine art collections. This setting also works to create the biophilic effect of calming and the uplifting colleagues. The plant designs have been sympathetically integrated by the interior design team, with beautiful, wooden, purpose-built integrated planters and seat back planters. We enhanced the décor by filling these planters with a generous quantity of green plants. In between the tables, we filled the troughs with tall, Ficus Robusta, a type of rubber plant chosen to create privacy and uniformity and to contrast we used softer, lower, mixed planting in the seat back planters. The effect is a warm and welcoming environment to relax and socialise over lunch, and encourages staff to leave their desks, recharge and refuel.

Throughout the office areas, plant displays are a feature, with collections of interesting plants clustered together for impressive effect, for example a tall structural Banana Palm, with a shiny spiky Zamioculcas Zamiifolia and large frondy Phlebodium Aureum (Blue Star Fern.) are displayed in striking decorative pots.

Anglo American have made the most of their exterior spaces, transforming terraces and the entrance into pocket-gardens where employees can enjoy nature and feel inspired and invigorated. In doing so they have also created attractive views for the office occupants. Here we added an abundance planting to give a very natural, English Country Garden feel. The finished effect is perfection and certainly enjoyed by all.
